About UK HOPE

University of Kentucky Health Occupation Professionals for Equality (UK HOPE) was founded in the fall of 2008. Our mission is to promote a more inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students, faculty, and staff at the University of Kentucky.

Representing the first official LGBT advocacy group on the UK medical campus, we attract a diverse membership of LGBT students, faculty, staff, and their allies. There are no requirements for joining the group; being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is not requisite, and in fact many of our members are not. The only requirement is a desire to be supportive of and interested in promoting sexual equality. We welcome any and all who are interested to attend our meetings or send us an email.

We intend to make this website a hub for all things LGBT on the UK medical campus. Please come back and visit us as we work to develop our primary goals:

• Establishing a mentorship network among faculty, staff, alumni, and students from UKs six health professional colleges.

• Promoting curricular innovations that better prepare health profession students to meet the special health needs of LGBT people.

• Sponsoring LGBT programming that engages the UK HealthCare community in a productive dialogue about LGBT health and culture.

• Helping UK attract and retain more outstanding LGBT students, faculty, and staff.

Can you help us with these efforts? Have suggestions for the website? Please contact us!

Join Us! Faculty, staff, and students meet approximately once a month to discuss LGBT issues and plan future events.
